Office Injection Site Care
After having an injection in the office you may experience:
Immediate relief due to the type of medication used. This may last up to 4-6 hours.
The next day or two, you may be very sore. Some patients experience pain similar to the pain they had prior to their appointment.
You may use ice - 20 minutes on, then 20 minutes off, for pain and/or inflammation. (Do not apply ice directly on the skin).
Rest the affected joint until your follow up appointment. You may do some gentle range of motion exercises, but do not overuse. The purpose of the injection is to decrease the irritated, inflamed joint.
Take pain medication and/or anti-inflammatory medications as prescribed by your physician.
Call the office if you experience any unusual redness, drainage, or a temperature above 101.0.
Schedule a follow-up appointment as indicated by your physician. The usual time frame to return is one to two months.
