ABOUT THE DOCTOR:

Dr. George Canizares is a General Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in sports
medicine and has been practicing in St. Petersburg since 2002. He received
his doctorate from the University Of South Florida College Of Medicine in Tampa,
where he was president of his senior class. Dr. Canizares served a residency
in Orthopaedic Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit;
he completed a Fellowship in Sports Medicine at South Florida Orthopaedic
Institute in Coral Gables and served as the team doctor for the Miami Heat and
Miami Sol. His Specialty Board Certification is with the American Board of
Orthopaedic Surgeons and he is Sports Medicine Fellowship Trained. When Dr.
Canizares joined All Florida Orthopaedic Associates in 2002 he was the driving
force in implementing a sports program. He has been instrumental in the development
of a sports care program at AFO for Pinellas County Schools such as Shorecrest
Prepatory, Northside Christian, Clearwater Central Catholic, St Pete High,
Northeast High and Clearwater Christian College as well as having traveled with
several professional sports teams as the team physician. Dr. Canizares was
appointed by Governor Jeb Bush in 2005 to the Florida Board of Athletic Training.
Dr. Canizares's hospital affiliations include Bayfront Medical Center, St Anthony’s,
Ed White, St Petersburg General, Northside and Center for Special Surgery.
Dr. Canizares lives in St. Petersburg with his wife and two sons.
