Michael J. Smith earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences. He did his internship and general surgery training at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed his orthoapedic training at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dr. Smith is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Smith has earned a well-deserved reputation as a leading specialist in Sports Medicine and Total Joint Replacement. He has been the team physician for many professional, collegiate and Olympic teams. He served as the team physician for the Tampa Bay Storm Arena Football League. He has been the orthopaedic consultant for the St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles and the Cleveland Indians baseball teams. Dr. Smith was the Chief Physician for the Women’s Olympic Basketball team at the Goodwill Games in Moscow, Russia, and for the US Women’s Olympic Basketball Team during the Trials in Colorado Springs.
Dr. Smith has published many articles on sports medicine and has been the past sports medicine editor of Orthopaedics Today. He has been on the publications committee of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine as well as served on the council of Delegates Committee.
He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Smith has been in private practice in St. Petersburg, Florida since 1979 and joined All Florida Orthopaedic Associates in 2015.
